The Winterstone Golf Course is the only course in America that actually rests on an operational mine. Across the highway from the Carefree Industrial Park, it's located south of the River Bluff Nature Reserve. The greens at Winterstone are composed of zoysia grass, said to offer a better playing green because of its dense, cushioning composition.
